You will be aware that it is a legal requirement to insure your car here in the UK for at least third party cover unless the vehicle is declared SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) and the vehicle is kept off the public road system. Well some interesting research has been carried out by AA Insurance that has revealed a staggering number of vehicles that have been seized by the police due to not being insured.
Apparently, since 2018, there have been 542,370 cars that have had no motor insurance that have been seized.
Back in 2020 there were almost 130,000 cars seized in the UK as a result of not having any motor insurance in place.
It is interesting that the police force that seized the most uninsured cars since 2018 is the Metropolitan Police force that seized 62,900 vehicles. There were 44,056 uninsured cars seized in the West Midlands and in third place with 33,829 seized was West Yorkshire.
Another staggering figure is that it is estimated by AA Insurance that there are in the region of one million cars on our roads here in the UK with no insurance cover in place.
The repercussions of being caught by the police with no car insurance in place is severe for the motorist. Having had the car seized it could be broken up and you could be fined and receive penalty points on your license and be banned from driving for a period of time. The cost of arranging suitable car insurance could increase significantly. If you were involved in a road traffic accident without insurance then can you imagine the potential financial burden that you could be faced with?
The current financial climate here in the UK is not good at the moment with prices for so many things on the increase. However, it is so important that suitable insurance cover is in place on your car. We are sure that you will agree it is not worth the risk of driving an uninsured vehicle.
