It is interesting to hear that the number of used cars sold here in the UK in the third quarter of 2023 rose when compared with the same quarter in 2022 according to data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
In Q3 of 2023, there were 1,884,160 used cars sold in the UK compared to 1,785,447 in Q3 of 2022. That is a rise of 5.5%.
On a year to date basis to Q3 of 2023 there were 5,563,576 used cars sold in the UK compared to 5,319,482 on a year to date basis to Q3 of 2022. That is an increase of 4.6%.
This is the 3rd quarter in a row that the sale of used cars here in the UK has gone up which will please used car sales businesses.

3. Volkswagen Golf 58,928
4. Ford Focus 58,431
5. Vauxhall Astra 41,898
It is pleasing to read about the sales figures for second hand Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in Q3 2023. There were 34,021 of these cars sold with this being a rise of almost 100% when compared with the previous quarter. Such vehicle sales now make up 1.8% of the market compared to 1% for the same period in 2022.
