Readers will find it interesting to read that the number of new car registrations in the UK fell in July 2022 when compared with July 2021. Figures were also lower on a year to date basis to July 2022.
Information published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveals that the number of new cars sold in the UK last month amounted to 112,162 compared to 123,296 in July 2021. This is a significant drop of 9%. On a year to date basis to July 2022 the number of new cars registered totalled 914,241 compared to 1,033,269 for the same period in 2021. That is a drop of 11.5 – again a significant fall.
The number of new diesel cars sold in July 2022 fell by over 29% to 6,210 in comparison to July 2021. The number of new petrol cars registered dropped by over 7% to 51,294 when comparing the same periods.
In July 2022 fleet new car sales dropped by over 18% to 50,014. On a year to dare basis to July 2022 fleet new car sales dropped by over 25% to 404,457.

A number of factors are said to have had a negative impact on meeting orders for new cars here in the UK including the war in Ukraine and the shortage in supply of semiconductors.
It is to be hoped that a turnaround is seen in the number of new cars being registered in the UK in the coming months although it will be interesting to see if the economic climate here in the UK will have a further negative effect on the number of new cars being sold.
