Nobody likes to wake up in the morning to find that their car has been stolen off their drive or returning to where they parked their car in a city centre whilst enjoying a meal out in a restaurant to find it gone. Regrettably, there are an awful lot of motor thefts here in the UK.
Some interesting statistics were produced a few months ago by Tracker that provides vehicle tracking systems that revealed the top 10 cars that were stolen in 2019 and recovered by them. It will probably not come as a surprise to read that the most popular makes and models of vehicles stolen were prestige cars.
Below is the list of the top 10 cars that were stolen last year and recovered by Tracker: –
1. Range Rover Sport
2. BMW X5
3. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
4. Range Rover Vogue
5. Land Rover Discovery
6. BMW X6
7. Range Rover Evoque
8. BMW 3 Series
9. Range Rover Autobiography
10. Mercedes –Benz E Class
As you can see, the Range Rover was a popular choice of car thieves last year with 4 out of the top 10 listed above being from that manufacturer. There were 3 models of BMW in the top 10 and 2 Mercedes-Benz models.
Presumably, there is a market for car thieves to be able to pass-on prestige vehicles that they have stolen for a price both here in the UK and overseas. Obviously, anything that car manufacturers and motorists can do to deter the car thief has got to be welcomed. For instance, making sure that the vehicle has security features such as a car alarm, engine immobiliser and a tracking device.
Obviously, the theft of motor vehicles is one of several things that have an impact on car insurance premiums. The more cars that are stolen results in insurers having to pay out more in claims leading to higher premiums that is something motorists could do without.
