An increasing number of motorists are investing in buying a dash cam to fit inside their car. It will not come as a surprise to read that the price of such equipment varies depending upon how sophisticated it is. So why would a motorist want to buy such an item?
Well, a dash cam could prove useful in the event of being involved in a road traffic accident as it may have been able to record the accident as it happened and the visual recoding could be used in respect of any car insurance claim being made. With this sort of evidence an insurance company may have a better understanding of how the accident occurred and establish who was to blame for the accident.
Another benefit in having a dash cam fitted in your car is that it may prevent a crash for cash insurance scam. This is where a dishonest motorist goes into say the back of another car whilst parked at a set of traffic lights. These sorts of fraudulent claims result in insurance companies paying out many millions of pounds a year. These sorts of claims can then lead to the premiums being charged by the insurer to go up that is something no motorist would welcome.
If your car is parked in a car park and left unattended perhaps whilst you are doing some shopping and is damaged by another motorist who does not stop and report the incident then the collision may have been recorded by the dash cam enabling the other motorist to be traced and prosecuted.
A further benefit is that a number of insurance companies that provide car insurance may provide a discount in the cost of such cover if your car is fitted with a dash cam thus saving you money. This is something that motorists would no doubt welcome especially as car insurance premiums have been increasing quite significantly in the last year or two.
