Motorists may be interested to read that, based upon research by the Co-op Insurance, it sounds like the day of the year that drivers may wish to avoid taking to the roads in their vehicles is the 5th December as that is the day when someone is more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident in the UK. The Co-op reviewed a considerable number of motor insurance claims to arrive at this conclusion covering the period from the 1st October 2012 to the 30 September 2016.
There could be a number of reasons why this is the case. For instance, drivers could encounter wintry conditions on the roads at this time of year with snow and ice sometimes being a feature. There could be more vehicles on the roads as people are out buying Christmas presents.
Apparently, motorists driving in the Midlands region are more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident than any other region. In fact, 50% of motor insurance claims are made by drivers in the Midlands, North West, North East and East Anglia on the 5th December.
Co-op Insurance was even able to find out that it is the Vauxhall Astra that is more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident on the above date.
Another interesting thing is that, on the 5th December, 60% of drivers involved in a road traffic accident are men and 40% are women.
Obviously it is important that motorists take care when driving at all times of the year to, hopefully, avoid becoming involved in a road traffic accident. In doing so, hopefully the number of claims that are made on people’s car insurance policies will reduce. If you have to make a claim on your motor insurance then this may result in your premiums increasing when you come to renew your policy that is something that would be preferable to avoid.
