When it comes to looking for car insurance, the first thing a lot of people think about
is the price. They may ask themselves: “Where can I get the cheapest car insurance?”
Well, that may sound fine but, surely, is it not more important to initially focus upon getting the right level of cover and then worrying about the price next? There seems little point in getting a lot of quotes and just selecting the one with the lowest premium without first checking that it meets your requirements.
In the first instance, are you not better deciding upon the level of cover that you require i.e. fully comprehensive, third party fire and theft or third party cover? After all, it is quite possible that the third option we have just listed is going to be the cheapest but will it meet your requirements?
For instance, third party car insurance provides no cover for any damage to your own car in an accident nor should it be lost or stolen. You may feel that that is fine if your car has a value of a few hundred pounds but what if it is worth £10,000? If you were involved in an accident that was your fault and your £10,000 car was written off and you only had third party cover how would you pay for a replacement car of a similar value? Yes, you may have the savings but would it not have been better to have considered spending more on your car insurance to get fully comprehensive car insurance that would have covered your car in the above example?
Another thing that you may wish to consider is how important the quality of service is from the car insurance provider. For instance, if you were to make a claim, how good are they in dealing with claims? After all, it can be quite a stressful period following an accident so don’t you think it is important that the staff you deal with in the claims department are professional, caring and know what they are doing? So, you may wish to try and find out about the company you are considering arranging your car insurance with, perhaps by looking on some review sites.
So, don’t you agree that it shouldn’t just be about the price?
