Group 1 cars are usually the cheapest to insure through to Group 50 cars that are usually the most expensive to insure although it should be noted that each car insurance company can utilise insurance groups of their own.
The following things are considered to reach a decision as to which insurance group a car is placed in: –
- Security devices fitted
- Cost of maintenance
- How the car performs i.e. its acceleration and its top speed
- What is the price of the 23 most popular parts to buy
- How much is the car worth when brand new
It will come as no surprise that the most expensive cars to insure tend to be luxury sports cars for a number of reasons. They are high performance vehicles accelerating fast to potentially reach a very high top speed and, therefore, are more likely to be involved in an accident. The car is expensive to buy and parts are expensive to replace.
